- Online Renewal: You can renew your license online through ServiceOntario’s website, provided that no new photo or vision test is required. The renewal fee is 90 CAD and can be paid by credit card.
- In-Person Renewal: If you prefer renewing your license in person, bring your current license and necessary identification to a ServiceOntario center. During the in-person renewal, your photo will be updated, and if necessary, a vision test will be conducted.
2. What to Do If Your License Has Expired
If your driver’s license has expired, you’ll need to follow different procedures based on how long it’s been since it expired:
- Less than 12 Months: You can renew your license without taking any additional tests.
- 1-3 Years: You will be required to pass a vision test.
- 3-10 Years: A written test and a vision test are required.
- More than 10 Years: If your license has been expired for over 10 years, you’ll need to restart the entire licensing process, beginning with a G1 license.
3. Additional Requirements for Renewal
When renewing your license, you’ll need to present the following documents:
- Your current driver’s license (if available)
- Proof of identity and address (such as government-issued ID or a utility bill)
- Any necessary medical or vision reports
Once you’ve completed the renewal process, you’ll receive a temporary license to use while waiting for your permanent one, which will be mailed to you within 4-6 weeks.
