1. Ontario

Driver’s License Age in Toronto

  • G1 License: You must be at least 16 years old to obtain a G1 license, the first step to becoming a driver in Canada. You need to pass a written exam to get this license.
  • G2 License: After obtaining the G1 license, you can apply for the G2 license after gaining 8-12 months of experience. If you attend a driving school, this period can be reduced to 8 months.
  • G (Full License): You can apply for a full license at least 12 months after obtaining the G2 license. You are expected to gain driving experience during this period.

  • Learner’s Licence: Can be obtained at the earliest age of 16.

  • Learner’s Licence (L): Can be obtained at the age of 16. With parental consent, it can be obtained at 15.
  • Novice Licence (N): Requires 12 months of experience after obtaining the L license.
  • Full Licence: Requires 24 months after obtaining the N license.

4. Alberta

  • Class 7 Learner’s Licence: Can be obtained at the age of 14. However, you must drive under the supervision of someone over 18.
  • Class 5 GDL (Probationary Licence): Requires 1 year of experience after obtaining the learner’s license.
  • Class 5 Full Licence: Requires at least 2 years of GDL experience.

5. Manitoba

  • Learner’s Licence: Minimum age is 16. With parental consent, it can be obtained at 15.
  • Intermediate Stage (I): Can be obtained after 9 months of experience.
  • Full Licence: Can be obtained after 15 months of experience in the GDL system.

6. Nova Scotia

  • Learner’s Licence: Minimum age is 16.
  • Newly Licensed Driver: Can be obtained after a 6-month probationary period.
  • Full Licence: Requires a total of 24 months of experience after the probationary period.
