What is G1 Test?

G1 is the first step in obtaining a driving license in Ontario. Candidates who pass this written exam are eligible to proceed to G2 and then to G (Full Licence).

Why is the G1 Exam Conducted?

The G1 exam is conducted to allow the candidate to:

• Recognize traffic signs,

• Navigate off-road situations,

• Ensure basic driving safety.

It is designed to allow you to apply your knowledge.

Failure to complete this training prevents you from taking the driving (G2) exam.

Who is Required to Take the G1 Exam?

Anyone applying for a driver's license for the first time in Ontario is required to take the G1 exam.

New immigrants and those who have not previously held an Ontario driver's license also begin the process with the G1.
